There's no escaping the fact that Jenkins is a very powerful system which can be infinitely configured to your needs, no matter how obscure they may be. But as a solo developer or a small team, setting up and running Jenkins took an overwhelming amount of time that could have been spent working on more productive tasks.

Vantagens

I love that Jenkins and all plugins are completely free, and how customisable and extensible it is. You have complete control over every aspect of your pipelines and every tiny cog and dial is tweakable.

Desvantagens

There is a steep learning curve, and setting up and maintaining the Jenkins environment can be an entire day job on its own. If you don't have a dedicated DevOps team to manage it, you might find yourself losing many productive hours to maintaining the CI system, and you might be better off with a CI system that does more for you out-of-the-box.

Reliable CI/CD Tool with Powerful Automation Capabilities

Avaliado em 11/06/2024

Vantagens

Jenkins is an incredibly versatile and reliable tool for continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD). As a senior automation tester, I appreciate its seamless integration with various version control systems, making it easy to trigger automated tests whenever new code is pushed by a developer. The extensive plugin ecosystem allows for significant customization and expansion of its functionalities. One of my favorite features is its ability to expose Allure reports, providing detailed and visually appealing test result reports that are easy to share with stakeholders.

Desvantagens

While Jenkins is a powerful tool, it can be quite complex to set up and configure, especially for those who are new to it. The user interface, although functional, feels outdated and can be cumbersome to navigate at times. Additionally, managing a large number of plugins can sometimes lead to compatibility issues and maintenance overhead.

Functional but becomes way too complex

Avaliado em 22/12/2024

Vantagens

The software itself is stable, it runs well and is not too complex to install

Desvantagens

The fact that pipelines are built either with a UI which makes the pipeline tough to read when you have lots of conditions.

The groovy language can also be used to write pipelines, but really ?? Let’s use a more common scripting language for this, maybe Python or ruby.

Basically I am Full Stack developer, But I am doing Testing, UI/UX, SEO and more because I am working in startup company. Jenkins is my first test tool and this last testing tool also because it's very easy to learn no need any experience to learn Jenkins. Second thing Jenkins didn't take more space in your laptop because it's run completely run in website just minimum setups only have in your system and more easy to integrate. My side opinion Jenkins don't have the drawbacks it's really very well of all testers.

Vantagens

The main reason to like Jenkins' is online interface, which offers integrated assistance and real-time error checking, makes it simple to set up and configure. The second thing it's very easy handle and they provide lots of plugins for pipeline project automation testing. Thirdly, there is The Continuous Delivery feature makes software delivery more dependable, automated, and efficient, which promotes better cooperation, quicker software releases, and higher-quality software overall. These are the reasons why I continue to use Jenkins

Desvantagens

My side opinion Jenkins don't have the drawbacks it's really very well of all testers.

Simplifying Deployment Pipelines with Jenkins

Avaliado em 13/07/2023

Vantagens

I loved Jenkins for its extensibility, flexibility, and automation capabilities. With a wide range of plugins and integrations, I could customize it to fit my needs perfectly. Jenkins automated repetitive tasks, making our development process more efficient. It scaled effortlessly, handling projects of all sizes. The active community support and seamless integration with other tools were also fantastic. Jenkins significantly improved our development workflow.

Desvantagens

I found a few challenges with Jenkins. Firstly, there was a steep learning curve, especially for beginners. Managing installations and plugin updates could be time-consuming, and the user interface felt outdated. Scaling Jenkins and troubleshooting issues were sometimes difficult. However, the community support and documentation were helpful in addressing these challenges.

I'm running multiple backup or VM configuration tasks. I like it, but I also see potential issues in the future. Because of that I will think about migrating to another solution in the future.

Vantagens

I like it's flexibility. You can almost do whatever you want with it.

Desvantagens

Plugins can be outdated, also documentation should be fixed. I also hate that there is no way to configure Jenkins with Database backend (everything is kept in files). Because of that there is no way to create multiple Jenkins instances.

Jenkins is one of the most known CI/CD tools on the market. It is outstandingly flexible and can be easily adapted to companies' needs without unnecessary concessions. The enormous number of plugins that allows various actions makes the usage incredibly adaptable. To tell the truth, sometimes plugins are deprecated and old, but the most important ones are quickly updated to the latest versions. Free and reasonably priced paid versions are a huge advantage on the market - it is one of the reasons for Jenkins being widely used across companies. Great customer support and documentation makes usage convenient. What is more, Jenkins has a big community that is actively participating in the project. If any problem occurs, it is probably resolved on the internet - in some forum or in the documentation.
However, not everything is so great. The biggest flaw of Jenkins is its lack of intuitiveness. Because it contains a huge number of features, it may be too complex, especially for new users that do not have an experience in CI/CD. Also, the design is quite cumbersome and can look outdated.
All in all, Jenkins is an amazing tool for CI/CD and I strongly recommend it to everyone who needs a flexible utility for pipelines management and monitoring.

Vantagens

Reasonable price/Free version
Great flexibility
An enormous number of available plugins
Great customer service/documentation
Widely supported by the community

Desvantagens

Can be confusing
The UI is not intuitive
The design is cumbersome

I would strongly recommand to consider Jenkins for your build machines. It's free, powerful and offers a lot of options that payed solution might not even propose.

Vantagens

Jenkins is fully open source, making it easy to install on almost any system.
Jenkins comes with many different plugins that allows you to use it with your favorite Engine, versioning solution, etc...
Jenkins offers many different ways of creating builds scenario, easy to understand steps, and strong scripting

Desvantagens

It's not always easy to find support, and you might need to rely on your web searching skills in order to find some help.
Updates can sometimes break plugins so you need to be careful with those. Luckly enough, there are ways to revert updates if necessary.
It's not for Everyone, since setting up a server could take time and a lot of trial and errors.

Jenkins make the SDLC more easy

Avaliado em 26/05/2023

Vantagens

Most of the IT companies are using jenkins to automate the SDLC that means automating steps like build, test and deploy. With jenkins we can build pipelines with customized workflows to automate. This gives high security and integrate with other tools like AWS and kubernetes. A very flexible tool that I use to enhance the quality of a software.

Desvantagens

I had to learn and ask from community to learn things. So for a new comer cannot use jenkins without a technical knowledge.

I use the pipeline automated by jenkins everyday and that saves my time a lot and would like to highly recommend this to anyone.

Vantagens

Most of the IT companies are using jenkins to automate testing, building and deployment stages of the code. We can configure jenkins to automatically trigger these steps when code merge happens to the repository. If the deployment or build got failed, I go through the jenkins logs and find the issue. There's a big community support for jenkins and we can get tech help from them.

Desvantagens

Jenkins need considerable memory, CPU and storage resources of the server to run.

We use Jenking along with BitBucket which is our main Git repository for version control. These tools are connected so that we use the master branch in BitBucket to switch and update versions between our different environments like DEV, Test and PROD.

Vantagens

I like the fact that Jenkins is a really customizable tool for deployments. In your Jenkins jobs you can choose between deploying some of the features of your branch and also impose rules of deployment like what will be deployed first and last to check for dependencies and prevent errors.

Desvantagens

There is nothing that I do not like in Jenkings. The UI is very simple and easy to use. The only thing I could say here is that some times the errors in the console output are not very straight forward in order to understand what component of the deployment really failed.

The best free and open source option on the market to task automation

Around 2007 my team selected it to automate the deployment process and some server maintenance processes. In that time I passed a few days around studing the real importance of the tool reading tecnical papers. We even integrated it with a chat tool so the deployment was performed through the company's chat bot triggered by anyone who had access to the user's contact monitored by jenkins. Over time I came to use it in other companies as developer operator only, most of the time the start of execution was not automatic but always integrated or with github.com or with Atlassian Bitbucket and Amazon CodeCommit. At the moment I use it as a developer and its integration is completely automated.

Vantagens

Jenkins provides out of the box hundreds of plugins and it is very simple to build plugins to integrat to it. You can choose a development language of your choice and build a script to do whatever you need. It's simple as that

Desvantagens

As it have a high importance in the execution flow, it ends up having a status of superiority towards the operators that it builds as an aura, so it is common for people to feel afraid to operate it in the first moments and if the tool is not well configured with a well-defined authorities for users, it can actually pose a certain risk to the operation. But after it is well configured and after a few days of use, this aura is by passed and its use becomes utterly positive.

Jenkins is a solid tool that provides a great way to do project delivery and continuous integration. It might require some initial work to get things started but once you do so it saves you and your team loads of time.

Vantagens

Project's versions beeing automatically generated and updated in our code repository, code repository integration using authentication mechanisms and the ability to define multiple environments with different configurations.

We can solve one of the major problems of the deployments as Jenkins can take of our major continuous build and integration process and it is widely used in all the major and minor enterprise applications and the Jenkins source code is very free and is flexible and can be used in almost all the operating system.

Vantagens

Best of Jenkins is it comes with wide range of the plugin suite and is used as the automation server software
that can achieve continuous integration. It supports wide range of the operating system like UNIX,LINUX,Windows, etc. Good thing is it is open source and can we used with wide range of the major tools like CVS,GIT,ANT,Maven etc. Jenkins is easy to use and is very flexible. In jenkins we can integrate large number of the servers as a result team across the world can work continuously integrating the project.Jenkins helps the developers in customizing the tool.In all most all the enterprise applications these Jenkins are used as a main tool for the continuous build and integration tool.

Desvantagens

The least about the software is that there is only the tracking on version control but there is no tracking on jenkins itself which is a major drawback. Cost of the Jenkins is unpredictable and may vary time by time. This Jenkins has another drawback as this does not allow the commit made by one person to be view by another person and tracking the Jenkins build process is bit difficult in large projects

Very positive. Would recommend to anyone or company who has a need to automate their software development and might not be willing to spend the big bucks to get there right now.

Vantagens

Installation was easy, and the pipelines work religiously well. Executors handle Java memory allocation well. Love the plugins. You don't have to know how to write code to use some of the popular ones. I didn't use the cloud hosted option, but I know people who have who love it.

Desvantagens

Some of the authentication stuff is a little confusing, but if you're on a small team it's probably easier to keep your installation secure that if you use it for a large organization with oAuth or SSO.
